August 9th
I've been back in Estonia for two weeks now. It's been great seeing my friends and family but now I honestly can't wait for school. I heard today that I got accepted to the program I was most excited about!
At the end of last week I went to sign some papers in my new school and I just took a quick picture of the sign outside.
Even though it is the Tallinn University of Technology (which mostly focuses on programs related to mathematics, physics and chemistry), I will be studying International Relations in English in the Economics department. I am glad that this school combines both my interest in science and humanities. Also, I will be taking all my courses together with foreign students which is another great aspect of my new school.
On Sunday we had some guests over to our house who were curious to hear about my experience in Canada. I cooked a small dinner and offered them mimosas which were everyone's favourite part of the night. Women I tell you. Later I showed them pictures from my year abroad. The pictures were mostly silly ones of my brothers but I tried to balance it out with the 2 or 3 pictures I had of Toronto. My strategy was just to show those few precious ones for as long as I could... I think I fooled them.
On Monday I met my friend Sandra whom I hadn't seen for a while. We had lunch and then went to spend time at my favourite place at any mall - the bookstore. I do miss the huge Indigo at Eaton Centre but our Apollo bookstore is pretty great too. I had my eye on various books but then limited myself to only one - 'Veronica Decides To Die' by Paulo Coelho.
I tried looking for the Sookie Stackhouse novels (the HBO show 'True Blood' is based on that series of books) and they actually had them but not the book I needed. Oh well maybe it's time to start ordering things online, I've somehow managed to go without it so far...
Later on we went to a rooftop movie theatre. It's a fun experience. They give all the viewers a set of wireless headphones because it's impossible to hear anything from the big speakers in an open space. Blankets are also provided to keep you warm during the cool Estonian nights. There's a bar as well where we just got some tea (so cozy). On Monday they were playing the movie 'The Bling Ring' which we were not impressed by but we had a good time regardless.
Oh and news from Monday. I actually downloaded new music! I'm not going to tell you how long it's been since I last did that but let's just say that my Recently Added playlist has been empty for as long as I can remember...
On Wednesday I met my friend Susanna to catch up on our lives. We ended up going to a gorgeous patio lounge in the Old Town. I enjoyed the beautiful weather and of course the great company.
Yesterday my mom and I made a last minute decision to go to Helsinki (the capital of Finland, shame on you if you didn't know that). The main purpose of the trip was to get my iPhone fixed (my lock screen button stopped working) and sadly that didn't happen. I guess there are some issues with replacing the iPhone 5 here so I have to seek help elsewhere...
We spent the day walking around the city and (window) shopping. In the end we were so tired that we just sat down in a park and talked and read our books.
Back in Tallinn, still exhausted, we started laughing at everything and nothing. I'm pretty sure people around us thought a lot of different things about us (nothing good). We just couldn't stop. I missed seeing my mom laugh so much.
Now we're planning a night out with the girls to properly welcome back my friend Natali, celebrate my acceptance to TUT and finally say good bye to my friend Tea.
